Lakeland Route Question by sandy saunders
Off to the Lake District on Saturday for a couple of weeks, and in the process of planning our routes to increase my collection of Wainwrights. The questions concerns routes taking in Crag Fell, Grike and Lank Rigg. 1. Is there a 'recognisable' route up to Crag Fell, maybe along Ben Gill, from...

TR (Long) - M62 wander. (And some new gear comments) by Judith
Knowing that I would be spending an expensive and unpleasant afternoon in Leeds on Saturday (yesterday), I decided to improve the weekend by going for a walk and testing out my new tent and camping matress. When I drive along the M62, between Manchester and Huddersfield, I always think how much...

Memory Map versus Anquet by Broadback[_2_]
Up until now I have used MM, I have found it easy to use. However I now want a map covering the area of OS OL19, now the only way I can get this from MM is make my own selection, they will then generate and send me the relevant map. AS I have The Lake District and The Yorkshire Dales I wish to...

Old injury playing up by Chris Gilbert[_4_]
Compo wrote I was puzzled as to how this could happen until I changed into my fireproof clothing to work on the incinerator this morning - my insoles were missing. As soon as I started reading this my immedaite thought was had there been a change in your footwear. It can also happen when we...

Back from Great Langdale by Simon[_3_]
Just back from a trip to the Lakes. Talk about wet!! Took a couple of walks around the area but the views were horrendous, as was the wind, yet still strangely enjoyable. Luckily the Old Dungeon Ghyll and the Stickle Barn Tavern were on hand to accept some very wet walkers. Incredible the...

[OT] The Story of My Hip (long). by Alan White
I'm posting this for two reasons. Firstly, the weather's too diabolical to do anything interesting and secondly, it may be of interest to others who find themselves in the same situation. Before I start, Lesley says thanks for the congrats on her epic and thanks from me for the good wishes. It...

Some shots from this weekend at Ystradfellte by Simon[_3_]
Yep, there are only so many angles that can be taken of these, so they probably look like every other photo out there of the waterfalls. But here's a few shots anyway. No tripod so I had to take them handheld, at 1/4th shutter, which was...

TR: A Trip to North Wales by Paul Saunders
Day 1 - August 1st 2009 - Clwydian Expedition After only half an hour's sleep, I awoke at 1:45am. It was raining. Taking inexplicably long to pack, I failed to leave until 10:15am. The day started drab. The rain had stopped but it was still overcast and uninspiring. I was unable to generate any...

Bigger tent for campsites by Paul Saunders
I'm thinking of getting a bigger tent just for campsite use. This is the one I like the look of, the Vango Omega 350 (2009 version). It's almost tall enough to stand up in so a chair and small table should fit easily into the porch. It's got alloy poles and the price is a bargain compared to...
