"Boo" wrote in message ... Just one extra tip; Tie the end of the lanyard onto the pack somewhere, so if the GPS comes loose it swings harmlessly rather than fall into the river / down ravine / off bridge onto motorway / etc.. This is a good bit of advice - I keep my gps in one or another pocket of my rucksack and I always loop the lanyard through the hole in the zip tag so it can't just fall out if I forget to do up the zipper. ================= Thanks again for the excellent advice. I have a GPS Map 60CSx (I think I've got that right - I'm sure it is
case sensitive) and I have to say that after the smaller, neater, Etrex Summit, the joy is that putting it in a shirt pocket (in winter) or the front map pocket in summer is just fine! Its sensitivity is so much better that one no longer needs to be so carefull. My ONLY bitch is with the silly lanyard, which is too short, and has no bead to tighten it round the wrist. Richard |

On one of my rucksacks, which has no attachment point, I have had success with a tiewrap over the shoulder strap. -- Hbunnet : (replace "nospam" with "athome" to reply) _/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/ |

On both my rucksacks I have added D rings where the padded strap ends. I find that is high enough to give my GPS a good view of the sky. The source of those rings no longer exists - they came from the old style mail bags with four galvanised steel rings, now they are all plastic - but I imagine you could do something similar with a suitably large split ring. -- Phil Cook looking north over the park to the "Westminster Gasworks" |

writes Does it come with velcro loop to go round the strap? I understood it was just a belt clip. It has a very strong spring clip which "grabs" the strap and it has a receptor for a button which screws into the back of the GPS. The button is spring locked into the receptor. If I have the time I'll photograph the arrangement. The illustration in the relevant web-site doesn't really "explain" how it fits together. -- Bill Grey |

If properly paranoid, fit a lanyard of some kind as well, short enough so he unit can't actually hit the ground if you drop it. I use a mobile phone one with a quick-disconnect fitting (instead of the Garmin thing, which is basically just a wrist strap). -- GSV Three Minds in a Can 12,541 Km walked. 2,442 Km PROWs surveyed. 44.0% complete. |
