I have been running alot lately and decided to go mountain climbing.
The running did not help at all. The experience was brutal. 8 hrs of hell. Running causes lots of injuries but is pretty easy cardiovascularly. When i started jogging after doing alot of mountain climbing it was effortless to run except for stupid injuries. |

At best the running will help with some generic cardio improvment but climbing/hiking uses different muscles. Running causes lots of injuries but is pretty easy cardiovascularly. Injuries in most cases is from doing too much, too soon, too fast! When i started jogging after doing alot of mountain climbing it was effortless to run except for stupid injuries. Methinks your trolling a wee bit. -DF |

I have switched from doing mostly climbing to doing mostly running and
from doing mostly running to doing mostly climbing. There just is no comparison. Mountain climbing requires 10 times more conditioning. I agree that the two activities use different muscles. If you have great cardio from mountain climbing, you have to really force yourself to run slow as a beginner runner or you will get overuse injury. |

Conversely, when i started running i did well because i already had a level of fitness from mountain climbing. I will say that i can't beat a goat up the mountain but i can catch them on the straightaway (gratuitous opening for TBR) |

I also started running after doing quite a bit of mountain climbing.
Running was effortless when i had the fitness from hiking. I stopped hiking lately and concentrated on running. I then returned to hiking and was reaquainted with how much more conditioning is required to hike. |
